make allowances

Posted by admin - September 3rd, 2010

“Why? You could just as well take the position that even though Rennie MacMahon wasn’t intrinsically valuable, she was all there was. Let me ask you a question, Rennie: why do you think Joe is interested in me? He must know I’m not going to go along with any program of his. I make allowances for everybody, most of all for myself. God, do I make allowances for Joe! And certainlyhe’s been making allowances for that. Why was he so anxious to have me talk to you? Didn’t he know I’d tell you I think this whole business is either funny or appalling, depending on my mood?”

“Jake, you haven’t seen how strong Joe is, I guess. That’s the finest thing of all: his strength. He’s so strong that he wouldn’t want me if anybody could convince me I was making a mistake.”

“I don’t see much strength in this premeditated horseback riding thing. Anybody who didn’t know better would think he was trying to fix me up with you.”

Rennie didn’t flinch. “He’s so strong he can afford to look weak sometimes, Jake. Nobody is as strong as Joe is.”

“He’s an Eagle Scout, all right,” I said cheerfully.

“Even that,” Rennie said; “he’s so strong he can even afford to be a caricature of his strength sometimes, and not care. Not many people are that strong.”

that mode for its refreshment

Posted by admin - August 30th, 2010

That is not what I meant at all. Leaving aside the celebrated fact that, with Don Quixote, the novel may be said to begin in self-transcendent parody and has often returned to that mode for its refreshment, let me say at once and plainly that I agree with Borges that literature can never be exhausted, if only because no single literary text can ever be exhausted — its “meaning” residing as it does in its transactions with individual readers over time, space, and language. I like to remind misreaders of my earlier essay that written literature is in fact about 4,500 years old (give or take a few centuries depending on one’s definition of literature), but that we have no way of knowing whether 4,500 years constitutes senility, maturity, youth, or mere infancy. The number of splendid sayable things — metaphors for the dawn or the sea, for example — is doubtless finite; it is also doubtless very large, perhaps virtually infinite. In some moods we writers may feel that Homer had it easier than we, getting there early with his rosy-fingered dawn and his wine-dark sea. We should console ourselves that one of the earliest extant literary texts (an Egyptian papyrus of ca. 2000 B.C., cited by Walter Jackson Bate in his 1970 study The Burden of the Past and the English Poet) is a complaint by the scribe Khakheperresenb that he has arrived on the scene too late

youth

Posted by admin - August 25th, 2010

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.

Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.

Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being’s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing appetite for what’s next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart, there is a wireless station; so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, courage and power from man and from the infinite, so long as you are young.

When your aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you’ve grown old, even at 20; but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there’s hope you may die young at 80.

Tudor Towers Museum

Posted by admin - August 4th, 2010

Tudor Towers Museum & The Blue Baths are set in gardens between the lake and the city. They show the historic spa facilities that people came to for their health, and the museum has a fabulous display of Te Arawa taonga (treasures) that give a real insight into their culture. Take a walk along the lakeshore (pictured) while you’re there.

There are also numerous other attractions, such as farm shows (sheep shearing and the like), bungy jumping, kiwi displays (the bird), Maori villages and cultural performances, kayaking, fishing, horse riding, bee and honey displays, mountain biking and lake cruises. I’m sure there are more every time we go there. As a tourist town, it’s well provided with accommodation, restaurants and cafes. I like it – especially the hot pools and the intense geology.

Humor is a kind of social

Posted by admin - July 21st, 2010

Recently voted Britain’s ten most wit humor, the results of the election is male. “Men, they are two of the most precious thing — women and humor with fire — potential.”

In Britain the tact of results, Churchill ranked fifth ranked 12th, Margaret thatcher. Winston Churchill, Britain CiFeng politics is the most aggressive politician. His reaction ability of fast and talk of humor has been praised for British people. Britain has a book about Winston Churchill’s humor and wisdom, collected more than 1000 words of Churchill paradox.

One of the most famous one story is, one night in the Commons, Churchill had two more, Labour congresswoman Bessie, Nebraska, a figure extremely obese women, spirit blunt bluntly say: “you drunk! But more importantly you drunk disgusting!” The drunken state, Churchill also filled with destruction: “hi, Bessie. And, despite my ugly inebriated today, tomorrow morning I was awake, and you’ll still so ugly.” This can be explained by some incorrect viewpoints.

Although thatcher’s “iron lady the nickname” more famous than his sense of humor, she had also ironic way: “do somebody like a lady. If you do as you are told people, that means you not.”

The independent, an article that actually for centuries, women’s humor help form the British people’s life and culture. They found several humor of British women as example. As the first female members gil ast. Winston Churchill once said to her, a woman in parliament as he bathed in when someone ran in, she countered, “haven’t you handsome to worry about this.”

Lucy potter wrote: “they say the land is occupied feed ceratosaurus feed vegetarian 6 times the land. It’s not strange, because like sheep fabaceous seedling run around. I think it is not chase vegetable planting of farmers, chasing up nothing.” It belongs to the irony.

Many writers and politicians from the sentence of course can find some humor, but in general, women have no sense of humor. It is very humorous men, is due to attract females. Humor is a social, performing, is a man to man impressed. While women can buy things trendy through to impress women.

The vanity columnist Mr Hitchens in “why women boring” say: “wit is clever. Men jeered almost anything, usually because of those things special stupid. Men like laughing at someone, and humorous jokes started to know life. Humor is ridiculous things against the armor. And inner delicate women want life, happiness, not sad sad.”

Mr Hitchens concretely analyzed by depression: “the man is wise humor, so the men did not want women is very humor. They hope their female audience rather than rivals. Men are too uncomfortable, women want to laugh they simply too easy.”

“For women, fertility is one important thing, let they are serious, grave, men can GanDengYan.”

Why women don’t laugh? “For women, the problem is not interesting, they are born of the secondary and higher than the reproduction of the mission has joked that has clear consciousness. Great pain, risked his life in danger to children into the world, who can think that very small.”

Hhwx Vernetztes Haus- Visionen, Teil X_184

Posted by admin - April 6th, 2010

Vernetztes Haus: Visionen, Teil X

The same procedure as last year? The same procedure as every year!

Posted by admin - April 6th, 2010
